Tracking the Preferences of Users Using Weak Estimators

2011

Published version of am article from the book:AI 2011: Advances in Artificial Intelligence. Also available from the publisher on SpringerLink:http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-25832-9_81 Since a social network, by definition, is so diverse, the problem of estimating the preferences of its users is becoming increasingly essential for personalized applications which range from service recommender systems to the targeted advertising of services. However, unlike traditional estimation problems where the underlying target distribution is stationary, estimating a user’s interests, typically, involves non-stationary distributions. The consequent time varying nature of the distribution to be trac…

2016

Anticancer therapy-induced vascular toxicity: VEGF inhibition and beyond

2017

Cardiotoxicity induced by chemotherapeutic agents and radiotherapy is a growing problem. In recent years, an increasing number of new drugs with targeted action have been designed. These molecules, such as monoclonal antibodies and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, can cause different type of toxicities compared to traditional chemotherapy. However, they can also cause cardiac complications such as heart failure, arterial hypertension, QT interval prolongation and arrhythmias. Currently, a field of intense research is the vascular toxicity induced by new biologic drugs, particularly those which inhibit vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor (VEGF-R) and other tyrosine kinases.…

Predicting efficacy and toxicity in the era of targeted therapy: focus on anti-EGFR and anti-VEGF molecules

2011

The treatment of solid malignancies includes various target drugs, such as monoclonal antibodies and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, which exert their effect alone or in combination with chemotherapy. The main part of these molecules have a target on proteins of EGFR and VEGF pathways. The particular toxicity profile and the financial impact, deriving from the application of these agents in cancer treatment, prompted a lot of researches to define predictive factors of their efficacy. Various biomarker were identified among the components of the targeted pathways. However just few studies allowed to identify specific factors to predict the toxicity of these drugs. In this review EGFR and VEGF-re…

Anti-inflammatory Function of High-Density Lipoproteins via Autophagy of IκB Kinase

2015

Background & Aims: Plasma levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol are frequently found decreased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Therefore, and because HDL exerts anti-inflammatory activities, we investigated whether HDL and its major protein component apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) modulate mucosal inflammatory responses in vitro and in vivo. Methods: The human intestinal epithelial cell line T84 was used as the in vitro model for measuring the effects of HDL on the expression and secretion of tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interleukin-8 (IL-8), and intracellular adhesion molecule (ICAM). Nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB)-responsive promoter activity was studied by …

DIAGSOL : development of a new functional marker of exposure to herbicides B-triketones in an agricultural soil

2020

Numerous herbicides target an enzyme found not only in weeds but also in « non-target organisms » such as microorganisms. This proof-of-concept study aims to use microbial gene encoding the targeted enzyme or the targeted enzyme itself as a marker for herbicide exposure in soils. The hppd gene and the encoded enzyme (HPPD; 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase), targeted by B-triketone herbicides, are the subject of this study. In silico analyses reveal that the hppd gene is spread out in all bacterial phyla. Primers specific to this gene were designed. This primer pair is used to measure the abundance, the composition and the diversity of the hppd bacterial community in soil microcosms expos…

2022

The farming practices associated with the use of sunflower herbicide-tolerant varieties (HTVs) have raised concerns among public authorities, who have recommended monitoring the potential effects of HTVs on biodiversity. In this context, at the scale of three French departments, the vegetation of 239 sunflower fields and their margins was studied between 2017 and 2019. This lower weed diversity can be attributed to shorter crop rotations and higher herbicide use. Admittedly, the higher densities of A. artemisiifolia observed in plots with HTVs are the cause of the use of these varieties rather than the consequence of these practices. However, these practices do not seem to solve the problem…

The Metabolic Syndrome and Its Relationship to Hypertensive Target Organ Damage

2007

High blood pressure is often associated with various metabolic abnormalities, including abdominal obesity, dyslipidemia, elevated plasma glucose, and insulin resistance, which are the main features of the metabolic syndrome. The metabolic syndrome is extremely common worldwide. This high prevalence is of considerable concern because several studies suggest that the metabolic syndrome carries an increased risk for cardiovascular events. Several lines of evidence seem to indicate that the metabolic syndrome is associated with an increased prevalence of preclinical cardiovascular and renal changes, such as left ventricular hypertrophy, microalbuminuria, impaired aortic elasticity, and early ca…
